On a mission to colour the streets of her home town, Kylie Fleur was recently handed her first public commission to develop, design and complete Marlborough’s largest street mural, Social Sheep measuring over 160 meters in length. This opened new doors for the artist, and offers a wonderful creative outlet for her by means of expression, one that reaches the wider community.
“Bee Friendly” Mural
Marlborough District Council commission. Kylie Fleur designed this 26 meter long street mural to support “Bee Awareness Month”. With an intention to bring awareness to the plight of our bees, and to remind society of the vital role they play in our environment. “Bee the change you want to see… BEE FRIENDLY”
I am not a painter by trade but an Artist by trade. I see the process from concept through to completion. For murals I Research, Develop, and Design, to realize the visual potential of a space or site.
Murals are a unique, and appealing way of adding atmosphere and personality to a public space, a business, or home environment. They act as an iconic landmark to draw attention to a business, and it gives owners an opportunity to create a personal design which represents their personality, and compliments the architecture and decor. Kylie Fleur creates original hand-painted murals, interior or exterior, any scale or height.
“Social Sheep” Mural – Eastern Wall
Marlborough District Council and Maataa Waka commission. This 160 meter long mural supports the Anti-bullying campaign. Kylie Fleur has approached this from a positive and comical angle, with the intention of reaching the youth of today and also our community, by creating a mural that acknowledges the social challenges youth face. Using cartoon sheep as a metaphor for human relationships in which inspiring and supportive messages are delivered.
